Neeraj’s first major breakthrough came in 2016 when he won the gold medal at the South Asian Games held in Guwahati, Assam. He threw the javelin to a distance of 82.23 meters, setting a new national record. The same year, he also won the gold medal at the World U20 Championships held in Bydgoszcz, Poland. He threw the spear to a distance of 86.48 meters, which was also a new world record in the U20 category.
In 2018, Neeraj won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games held in Gold Coast, Australia. He threw the javelin to a distance of 86.47 meters, setting a new Commonwealth Games record. He also won the gold medal at the Asian Games held in Jakarta, Indonesia, where he threw the spear to a distance of 88.06 meters, which was also a new national record.
