In the IPL 2024 Eliminator match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), RCB captain Virat Kohli was left in shock as one of his star players made a massive blunder, resulting in RR losing two early wickets.
The match started off on a high note for RR, with the openers coming out all guns blazing. However, in the fourth over, RCB bowler Mohammed Siraj bowled a beautiful delivery that swung in to hit the pads of RR opener Liam Livingstone. The RCB players went up in appeal, and the umpire raised his finger, giving Livingstone out LBW.
However, upon reviewing the decision on the big screen, it was clear that Livingstone had got a big inside edge onto his pads before the ball hit his pads. Livingstone himself was stunned by the decision, and he had to trudge back to the pavilion after scoring just 14 runs off 12 balls.
But the drama was not over yet. In the very next over, RCB spinner Yuzvendra Chahal came on to bowl and immediately struck gold. He bowled a flighted delivery that spun away from the bat of RR batsman Sanju Samson, who tried to cut it but only managed to edge it to RCB wicketkeeper AB de Villiers.
De Villiers took a sharp catch, and the RCB players went up in celebration. However, upon closer inspection, it was clear that the ball had bounced before reaching de Villiers’ gloves. The replays showed that the ball had hit the ground and then bounced into de Villiers’ gloves.
But to everyone’s surprise, Samson started walking off the field without waiting for the umpire’s decision. It was later revealed that Samson had assumed that he was out and had walked off without waiting for the umpire’s decision.
This left Kohli in shock, as he watched one of his star players make a massive blunder that cost his team a wicket. The RCB players were clearly stunned by the turn of events, and they will be hoping to quickly regroup and get back into the game.
As for RR, they will be hoping to build on their promising start and post a competitive total on the board. With the likes of Jos Buttler, Chris Morris, and Shivam Dube still to come, RR will fancy their chances of putting up a big score and booking their place in the next round of the tournament.
