RR vs RCB: Virat Kohli Effects Marvellous RunOut as Sunil Gavaskar Praises the Skipper in IPL 2024 Eliminator

In the Eliminator match of the IPL 2024, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) faced off against Rajasthan Royals (RR). The match took place at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on May 22, 2024. It was a crucial game for both teams as they battled it out for a place in the Qualifier 2.

The match began with RCB winning the toss and electing to field first. Rajasthan Royals got off to a decent start with their openers, Chris Lynn and Manan Vohra, putting up a partnership of 50 runs in just 5.3 overs. However, RCB struck back with quick wickets and restricted RR to a modest total of 146 runs.

In response, RCB got off to a shaky start, losing their opener Devdutt Padikkal early. However, skipper Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell steadied the ship for RCB with a brilliant partnership. Kohli, who has been known for his batting prowess, showcased his fielding skills in the match as well. He pulled off a marvellous runout to dismiss Rajasthan Royals’ skipper Sanju Samson in the 13th over.

It all happened when Samson played a shot towards mid-wicket and ran for a quick single. Kohli quickly ran towards the ball, picked it up in one motion, and threw it towards the non-striker’s end. His throw was accurate, and Samson was caught short of his crease by a few inches.

Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was quick to praise Kohli’s fielding effort. He said, That was an exceptional piece of fielding from Virat Kohli. He showed great awareness and presence of mind to effect that runout.

Kohli’s runout proved to be a turning point in the match as RCB gained the upper hand and won the match comfortably by seven wickets with four balls to spare. Kohli remained unbeaten on 62 off 47 balls and was named the Player of the Match.

This win kept RCB’s hopes alive in the tournament, and they will now face Chennai Super Kings in the Qualifier 2. The winner of that match will progress to the final to face Mumbai Indians.

In conclusion, Kohli’s marvellous runout of Samson was a crucial moment in the match and showed once again why he is considered one of the best fielders in world cricket. RCB will hope that their skipper can continue his good form in the upcoming matches and help them lift their maiden IPL trophy.
